Multiple Profiles

You know how one computer can be used by different folks, right? Well, if they're using Redragon M901 Perdition Mouse, each person can make it work just the way they like.

This mouse is cool because it can remember setups for each person. So, when it's time to game, all you guys need to do is pick your profile, and you're good to go!

Variable DPI

The dots per inch (DPI) adjustment lets users tweak the mouse sensitivity to their own liking. Some folks prefer snappy and quick responses, while others opt for a more fluid and smooth experience. Fortunately, You can adjust the DPI in Redragon M901 Perdition by just pressing the buttons on your mouse.

When purchasing an MMO mouse, remember that they're designed mainly for gaming purposes. That's not to say you can't use them for productivity or everyday tasks – you definitely can. However, they're specifically optimized with gaming in focus.

Specifications

This mouse represents Redragon's approach to the MMO mice category. Let's see if the brand lives up to its legacy with this mouse.

Appearance and Design

One aspect they've handled quite well is that they haven't attempted to make the Redragon M901 Perdition compact. It's actually quite big, and you can quickly spot its MMO nature from afar due to its size. When using this mouse all your fingers can rest on it, an indication of Good body design.

Buttons’ Layout

The macro buttons are situated on the left-hand side of the mouse, right where your thumb naturally rests when using it with your right hand. The design seems to draw inspiration from the Razer Naga Series of MMO Mice, which isn't a negative aspect. Plus, the three main buttons, including the scroll wheel, are in their expected positions.

Optical Sensor

The sensor optimized for the M901's configuration is the Avago Laser Sensor, which comes with the following features that enhance the gaming experience:

  • Manual DPI (Dots Per inch) adjustment can be followed as:
    • 1000
    • 2000
    • 4000
    • 8000
    • 12000
    • 24000
  • Runs at 12000 Frames Per Second
  • With a polling rate of 1000 Hz
  • Holding an acceleration of 30Gs.`

Currently, the sensor itself doesn't possess a one-word reputation in the gaming mice community. However, during use, it won't let you down. The underside of the mouse is equipped with numerous Teflon pads, contributing to a smoother gliding experience for the device.

RGB

Being a Redragon gaming product, it does come with RGB backlighting offering 16 million colour options, along with breathing and floating effects. The lighting effects can be customized and controlled using the software.

Switches

The switches used in the Redragon M901 Perdition are the Omron Micro Switches. These switches are not silent so the buttons produce a clicky sound when pressed. The quality of the switches is good and they can last quite a time.

Critical Review - Addressing Both Positives and Drawbacks

First Impression

When you'll look at Redragon M901 Perdition for the first time, it may feel pretty big especially if you were using a small mouse like me. But when you pick it up or slide it on your mouse pad you will feel that's it is actually pretty light. Surprisingly they put some weights in the package to adjust it the way you feel satisfied, which I truly appreciate.

Talking about aesthetics, my first impression was actually positive! The combination of Red and Black personally looks good to me so I can't guarantee if you'll like it as well.

When I looked at 12 side buttons, I was like WTF! Seeing so many buttons on a mouse for the first time felt really different and for a moment I thought, How can I bring all of these to use.

Design

This mouse is mostly made of plastic, which unfortunately doesn't offer the best grip for games like Fortnite, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Genshin Impact, Rocket League, and more.

These games need you to handle a bunch of actions all at once, which means you're always working with the mouse. But, as I mentioned, the grip experience isn't exactly a delight. So If your hands are sweaty then you might lose the mouse from your hand after hitting it with your keyboard in your intense gaming session.

You can manually adjust how heavy the device feels to match your strength, they've included a set of eight 2.4-gram weights for you.

Taking a look at the design, we can spot a difference compared to regular mice. Because it's an MMO mouse, it had to make room for fifteen extra buttons that you can program for your intense gaming sessions. Out of these, twelve buttons are placed on the right-hand side of the device.

Programmable Macros

You can easily setup Macros based on what you need, but using them in your very first gaming session with this mouse might be a bit tough. It's quite a challenge to find the exact button without looking at the mouse. It will take some time until you get used to it.

A significant issue is that these twelve side buttons didn't provide a consistent feel when pressed, which was quite unusual. Sometimes the key may not work properly when pressed. It left me uncertain whether this was a flaw in the mouse's design, the buttons, or something related to the switches themselves.

Moving on, there are six more buttons on the top part of the body, including the right and left-click buttons and a scroll wheel.

Here's the quirky part: the scroll wheel isn't all made of the same material. It's got this rubberized cover that might seem okay at first, but after a few days of use, it can get quite sticky to the touch.

However, Let me repeat that with some use over time, you'll get used to it and it'll become more comfortable.

When it comes to customizing your macros, you'll need to use the Redragon M901 Perdition software. Though, the process isn't too complicated.

Profile Switching

If multiple users are sharing the same computer, chances are they won't want to use the same programmed settings. This is where the software of Redragon M901 Perdition comes into action.

To cater to this, the mouse provides five separate programmable profiles, each with different configurations based on the user's preference. These profiles can be easily managed, programmed, and switched using the software.

This process is quite effortless and can save a significant amount of time compared to repeatedly reconfiguring the settings.

Managing the Weight

Because the device is quite big, Redragon added eight little weights that you can adjust to make it feel right for you. It took me more time than I thought to figure out the best weight for me, but it was worth it. The device didn't feel too heavy or too light after finding the right balance.

The device has a cable that's 6 feet long and made of strong material. It connects to the computer through a gold-plated USB connector, which is good and works smoothly. But the cable itself is a bit heavy, so it needs more effort to move it around from one spot to another.

Cable Connection

Here's a good thing: the cable is covered with a strong material and won't get harmed even if you bend or stretch it, on purpose or not. Even if you're in a humid place, the metal parts won't get rusty, which makes the device last longer.

And the cable length is just perfect. It won't get stuck when you're dealing with the gun's kickback in games like Modern Warfare.

About RGB

A product isn't really meant for gaming if it doesn't have those fancy RGB lights. Keeping that in mind, the Redragon M901 Perdition Gaming Mouse comes with cool RGB LEDs that can be adjusted and customized in about 16 million different colors using the software.

Don't worry, the lights aren't too bright and won't distract you during your gaming sessions. You can even save your favourite RGB effects to your profile along with your button settings.

But, here's a major issue I want to talk about:

I've mentioned the software a few times because it's used to handle many functions of the device that need software assistance. Looking at the way the device is built, you'll need the software at least once to set up macros.

My overall experience with the software was just okay. Even though they've updated it several times, other brands like Razer, Logitech, Corsair, HyperX, and so on, have better software interface in my humble opinion.
